Our chosen charity is Chestnut Tree House, the only children’s hospice in Sussex, cares for children and young adults from 0 to 19 with progressive life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses from all over the county.

Completed in 2003, the hospice provides a “home from home” environment with ten children’s bedrooms, eight family rooms, a wet and dry play area, computer and music rooms, multi sensory rooms and a hydrotherapy pool.

The hospice currently supports over 240 children across Sussex and provides support for the whole family, offering psychological support, care following bereavement, end of life and respite care, and sibling support. Families can stay at the house in special family rooms or leave their children in the capable hands of the Care Team. The Community Team also offer care in the families own home, and run activity days for the children, their siblings and their parents or carers.

Louise Collins, Community Fundraiser at the hospice, said: “It costs approximately £2.5 million per year to provide all the care services at Chestnut Tree House. Families are never charged for their care and less than 9p in every pound is funded by the government, so we rely heavily on the generosity, help and support of the people of Sussex and places like the Red Lion. We are thrilled that they have chosen us as their charity and look forward to working with them.”
